Christian Relationship Help: How to Offer Respect in Your Relationships
by Karla Downing Are you looking for Christian relationship help because you are wondering how to offer respect in your relationships? God wants respect in our relationships. He tells us all to respect church leaders and elders; wives to respect husbands; husbands to respect wives; children to respect parents; employers to respect employees; employees to respect employers; and parents to respect children. In other words, we are to respect each other(Leviticus 19:3, 32; Ephesians 5:33; Ephesians 6:2-6, 9; 1 Peter 3:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:12). "Respect" means to show that you honor or value someone and that you treat them in a way that reflects that value. It isn't difficult to respect someone who is acting respectfully, but it is extremely difficult to respect someone who is acting in a way that leads you to disrespect what he/she is doing. Here are some ways you can offer respect to someone who you feel doesn't deserve it: You offer respect for the position they hold. The person has value to you because of the relationship they have with you. You don't want to destroy the relationship, because it has importance to you. You confront in a way that shows the person you value them. This would mean you would speak the truth in love and that your confrontations would build the relationship and person rather than tear them down. You treat the person like you would want to be treated rather than how you are being treated. In this way, you are showing that you are honoring and valuing the person. You set boundaries, speak the truth in love, say no to sin, refuse to enable wrongdoing, and stand for what is good and right for the person, yourself, and the relationship. This Christian relationship help shows you how to offer respect for the person in your difficult relationship without approving actions that aren't respectable. . . . . . . . . . . . .
