Is Bible Prophecy Important Today?
by Mark Wells

Many Christians today do not study Bible prophecy, thinking that all they need to do is believe in Christ Jesus and they will be fine. But I want to show in this article how important Bible prophecy is to us today, and why we should be studying it to find out the truth about last day events, and the deceptions that Satan has in store for the world.

All Christians should be studying the Word of God with an eagerness and desire to learn more about our precious Saviour and His revelation in the Bible. The majority of Christians who don't study prophecy, don't study it because they think it's too complicated, with it being full of symbolic language. And many don't feel it necessary to study prophecy, as they think they just need to "believe" in Christ and they will be ok.

Well, in the beginning of the book of Revelation it says that it is the "revelation of Jesus Christ". So Christ had Revelation written for a good reason. It is to "reveal" something about Christ Jesus and the things that are to come to pass. Should we not find out about His revelation? I think we should. The word of prophecy has been opened to us now in these last days and God has given us an understanding of it. After all, what would be the point of God giving us prophecy in the Bible if He wasn't going to reveal it to us? It would be useless. But thankfully He has revealed the truth about it.

If we look at a prophecy that Jesus gave Himself, then we can see how important it is for us to understand. In Matthew 24, Jesus prophesied that the city of Jerusalem would be destroyed. Not just attacked and broken down, but completely flattened, having not one stone left upon another. Jesus said that the His people should flee to the mountains when they see the sign that this is about to happen. Now in AD70, the Roman army came against the city of Jerusalem, but withdrew unexpectedly. Some of God's people (Christians) saw this as the sign to flee, and they did, but over 1 MILLION Jews stayed in the city, not heeding the prophecy of Jesus and the Roman army came back and destroyed the city as Jesus said. Those 1 MILLION Jews were killed because they did not heed the prophecy of Jesus. So does this teach us something? Yes, it wouldn't surprise me if there were many "believers" in that city, but only those who heeded the warning contained in the prophecy of Jesus were saved!

Bible prophecy today is backed up by hundreds and thousands of years of validated history. Take a look at what the apostle Peter says in 2 Peter 1:19... 'We have also a more sure word of prophecy; where unto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.' ..... We need to heed the word of Bible prophecy. Why? Because we leave ourselves open to be deceived if we don't take any interest in it. Satan is roaming around seeking whom he can deceive, and he is the one who doesn't want you to study Bible prophecy, because as Revelation states, it is the REVELATION of Jesus Christ. Of course Satan doesn't want you to have the revelation of Christ. Which is why he has brought about so many different theories on Bible prophecy to keep people away from it.

Let me give you just one reason why Bible prophecy is so important for us to study today. In Revelation 13, we find two beasts that play major roles in the end times and cause the world to take the "mark of the beast". And in Revelation 14, we find three angels giving a warning message to the whole world that anyone who takes the mark of the beast will receive the full wrath of God and will be forever lost!

There will be only two groups of people in the last days. Those who take the mark of the beast and those who receive the seal of God. And it will only be those with the seal of God who are saved and enjoy eternal life with Christ Jesus and the saints. So is it important to study about this and find out what the mark of the beast is? Most definately.

Some of the most solemn warnings are found in Bible prophecy, and we need to find out what these warning are about and heed them. Please study the prophecies contained in the Bible and ask God to guide you and help you understand them, as prophecy is very important for us today.
