The Spirit against the flesh
by kenneth hurst The Spirit against the flesh Galatians 5:17 tells us that the Spirit is against the flesh. They are contrary to one another and we are sometimes unable to do what God wants us to do. Paul said in Romans 7:21,22- I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: Our inward man wants to do God's will. What can tip the balance? How do we overcome our old self that is contrary to the will of God? In Galatians 2:20 there are two Greek words for the English word "I". Zao; to live, breathe, be among the living (not lifeless, not dead) is used in the phrase, "nevertheless I live". Ego; I, me, my is used in the phrase, "yet not I". Zao is doubtlessly the inward born again spirit. This verse begins with the phrase, "I am crucified with Christ". Jesus is the Lord of all. He overcame everything for us. Our old self is crucified and our new self is brought to life by faith in the power of the blood of Jesus. Leviticus 17:11- For the life of the flesh [is] in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it [is] the blood [that] maketh an atonement for the soul. Luke 10:19- Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Romans 3:24,25- Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; Romans 10:10- For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Revelation 12:11- And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Believing and speaking is the key; Matthew 16:19- And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Ephesians 2:13- But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh (alive) by the blood of Christ. Revelation 3:20- Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door (with the key), I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Praise Jesus.
