The Tribulation in Simple Terms.
by Bob Butler When the term tribulation is used it refers to biblical passages (scriptures) that refer to a time of harsh trials for the people of earth. On the one side we have satan wanting to destroy God's people, those that believe Jesus Christ is God's Son and he died and rose from the dead. This is basic Christianity 101. On the other side we have God trying to gather as many people to Himself, through His Son Jesus Christ, to be with Him in heaven. This is the battle of all battles since the beginning of time. God requires a holiness (moral and ethical doing the right thing kind of life) that is acceptable to Him. This can only be accomplished with the help of Jesus and the Holy Spirit (but that is another story). Satan wants to be the top dog and tries to oust God, bad idea, cause God is bigger and more powerful. Now satan has nowhere to sit and so he walks around thinking of all the bad things he wants to do and is constantly accusing you and me about all the bad things we have done. He is the preverbal tattletale. Jesus on the right side of God is telling God all the good things you and I have done, that is if you believe in Him. Back and forth, back and forth. God is getting tired of this I bet. Anyway, some day in the future God is going to say 'enough is enough' and kicks satan out of heaven, and he lands on earth. This of course makes satan very mad and he takes it out on God's creation over a seven year period, especially God's people. Now we get to the tribulation. Satan is going to deceive the simple minded people on earth (simple in the sense that they are unaware of want he is doing until it is too late). He makes himself king of the earth and sits on the throne of the newly build, very magnificent, temple in Jerusalem. (That also is for another story). He sits there and declares himself 'god'. Opps, not the smartest thing to do because that title is reserved for only one 'GOD'. Now God has to put him in his place once and for all. By the way, leading up to this event, satan has been killing believes in Jesus Christ right and left. Cutting their heads off to destroy what God has accomplished. (Sorry about the graphic detail but that is what happens). All of this then makes up the meaning of tribulation. A time of great hardships for the believers in Jesus Christ and for the Jews who believe in God. But do not worry God wins! I am a laymen with an advanced degree in Biblical Lit.
