Christian Weight Loss: Overcoming Mental Constipation
by Kimberly Floyd Are you procrastinating on your Christian weight loss goals? Is Ill do it tomorrow one of your favorite things to say to yourself? If so, then you might have a procrastination problem. But lets call it what it really is: mental constipation. Just as your body suffers from constipation occasionally, your mind does too. Mental constipation happens when you have dreams, but refuse to act on them. They want to come out but something is blocking them. In the case of mental constipation, that something is you. For example, say that you want a slimmer, healthier body. Are you delaying that dream by telling yourself that you will start exercising or eating healthier on Monday? If its a dream that you really want and you know it will make your life better, then why delay having that better life? To deal with mental constipation, then you need the equivalent of a mental laxative to get things out. Make an I want list. In the example above, youd put down I want to be 2 sizes smaller by January 1 on your list. Next, ask yourself What will I need to do to have what I want? Each day, create an I will list that helps you get the things you want. For example, your I will list might contain I will eat three servings of vegetables today or I will go for a 30 minute power walk today. As you do the things on your I will list, you will start to see the things on your I want list come to life. Just as a laxative brings relief to your physical body, creating and acting on the items on your list brings relief to your mind. Anytime you find yourself thinking thoughts that try to talk you out of doing the items on your list, then thats your cue to take action immediately. The longer you delay, the longer you are going to stay stopped up. And the good news is, once you start clearing out the mental constipation, some of the messes in your life will be eliminated too.
