Celebrating Friendship

February is National Friendship Month and I say "Amen!" Lucy and Ethel would be so proud. I love to celebrate and I love my good friends, so this is a special month for me.
Have you ever really celebrated the amazing gift of friendship? Before you answer let's get an expert's definition of what it means to celebrate. Webster defines celebrate as: to observe a noble occasion with festivitiesto show happiness that something good or special has happened.

Wouldn't you say that friendship is definitely something good and special that has happened to us? If we have one good friend who knows everything about us and loves us anyway then we are blessed. If we have several friends like that, then get out the party hats and order the cake. This calls for a celebration.

Friendship is a beautiful gift to be treasured, enjoyed and celebrated. In God's Word we read how he ordained feast and festivals where his people would gather and celebrate.
One of my favorite verses of scriptures is: "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work, if one falls down his friend can help him up," Ecc 4:9-10. I have been helped up many times, and that gives me a reason to celebrate.

Here are some ways I plan to celebrate friendship this month. Fortunately we have a whole month so maybe you can choose at least one day to celebrate.

1. My mom is my best friend. She loves spending time with me, and so I am giving her my timea day to do the things she enjoys.
2. I'll set up a lunch date with my friend Rhonda.
3. I'm sending valentines with a Scripture blessing for each of my out-of-town girlfriends.
4. My friend Jan is a missionary to Africa and I will send a donation in her honor. Nothing makes her happier.
5. At church we are having a Girlfriends Night to celebrate Jesus, our best friend, and fellowship with each other.
6. Finally I will go over to Andrea's Country Cuts, my hometown hair salon, where some of my best friends will provide a rich source of "information and inspiration." Together we will enjoy being girls. Our hairdresser, Andrea, is five months pregnant with twins. After ten years of marriage, and longing for children, our Lord has blessed her with a double portion and they're girls. There's no better friend than your hairdresser, so I am taking her a box of chocolates. Should I make that two, no three? The girls at the salon need some chocolate too. I think I'll bring some party hats too!

Now who's on your heart-list of friends? Take out your calendar or your Blackberry and schedule time for the important friends that have made life better for you.
