Bye Bye Love
by PamFord Davis

Do you remember lazy, carefree summer days of your youth? Did you have a creek or lake close by to cool off in on hot and muggy days? Where I grew up in central NY State we had creeks, lakes, ponds and falls, drawing tourists as well as the locals. Our family often enjoyed swimming and picnics.

From our Aunt Dorothy we learned of a private pond in New Woodstock. It was in a wooded secluded area with plenty of room to swim and splash! On one special day at the pond my sister Donna took along her portable radio, when transistor radios were about the size of a bread box. It's interesting they started big, went to pocket size, became big boom boxes, and now are miniature size!

We enjoyed the music and what followed is a happy memory. Donna caught two small tree frogs and put them in a glass jar. We listened to the Everly Brothers sing "Bye, Bye Love" on her radio. The movement of the frog's mouths looked like they were singing along! I guess they were auditioning for Karaoke!
